US plate prices up on long lead times, low imports

Plate prices in the United States continue to hold their ground thanks to stable demand, limited imports and long mill lead times.

American Metal Market's assessment for cut-to-length plate is unchanged at $48.50 per hundredweight ($970 per short ton).Lead times average nine-12 weeks at mills that have spot tons available but some mills might not have spot availability until 2019, assuming they have spot tons available at all, sources said."We went out [to a US mill] for plate... and their price was up $20 [per ton] from the last time we inquired," one service center source said, echoing the sentiment of others...
