US wire rod prices set new highs in October

Wire rod prices in the United States rose by $40 per short ton ($2.00 per cwt) in October, to hit record highs for domestic and imported low-carbon wire rod, high-carbon wire rod and cold-heading quality wire rod.

Fastmarkets' monthly assessment for steel wire rod (low carbon) industrial quality, fob mill US was $59.50-62.50 per hundredweight ($1,190-1.250 per short ton) on Tuesday October 19, up 3.39% from $57.50-60.50 per cwt on September 21, and up 6.09% from $56-59 per cwt on August 17. The midpoint of the range, $61 per cwt, is the highest on record, topping the previous high of $57.50 on July 24, 2008.Fastmarkets' assessment for steel wire rod (low carbon) import, loaded truck Port of Houston for immediate delivery was $1,160-1,250 per short ton on Tuesday, up 2.12% from $1,130-$1,230 per ton on September 12, and up by 4.78% from $1,100-1,200 per ton on August 17. The midpoint of the October range, $1,205 per ton, tops the previous all time high of $1,180 per short for the midpoint of the range in September. Fastmarkets' monthly assessment for steel wire rod (high...
