Vale delays Voisey's Bay nickel ops reopening for up to 3 months [CORRECTED]

Brazilian mining company Vale has decided to extend the care and maintenance period at its Voisey's Bay nickel mine, in northeast Canada, for up to three months to prevent the spread the Covid-19 coronavirus, the company said on Wednesday April 8.

The Long Harbour Processing Plant in Newfoundland, Canada, however, will maintain activity using stockpiled nickel and cobalt concentrates, the miner said. As a result of the mine halting operations, copper concentrate output will diminish by 6,000 tonnes in the first half of the year, the company added.
