Van Merksteijn orders 900,000-tpy wire rod mill in Netherlands to secure supplies, reduce reliance on imports

Dutch wire products supplier Van Merksteijn has confirmed that it has ordered an electric arc furnace (EAF) and wire rod rolling mill, enabling the company to secure supplies and substantially reduce its reliance on wire rod imports.

The new facility will have a wire rod production capacity of 900,000 tonnes per year, and will be built at the seaport of Eemshaven in the north of the Netherlands.Wire rod production at the new mill, being supplied by Italian equipment supplier Danieli, is expected to start during the second half of 2020, Van Merksteijn said.Van Merksteijn estimates that the total investment will amount to ?,?260 million ($321.87 million) and will create around 300 jobs."With a constant demand for material [needed to produce] nearly 1.20 million tonnes of end product per year, Van Merksteijn sees...
