Walmart to Headline Week of Retail Earnings

A handful of Fed speeches highlight the week ahead, with Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester and St. Louis Fed President James Bullard both slated to speak twice. Retailers will be in the spotlight, with data on monthly retail sales expected, and Walmart (WMT) among several retailers reporting earnings. In addition, fellow blue chips Home Depot (HD) and Cisco Systems (CSCO) will report.

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

Speeches fromLoretta Mester and James Bullard start off the week on Monday, May 14, with earnings expected from Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS), Mazor Robotics (MZOR), Switch (SWCH), and Vipshop (VIPS).

For Tuesday, May 15, Wall Street will digest monthly retail sales, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) housing market index, Treasury International Capital data,business inventories, and the Empire State manufacturing survey. Home Depot (HD) and Boot Barn (BOOT) will share time in the earnings confessional.

Wednesday, May 16, will bring speeches from Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic and a second from James Bullard. The MBA mortgage index, weekly crude inventories report, and data on housing starts and April industrial productionis scheduled. Set to announce earnings are Cisco Systems (CSCO), Canadian Solar (CSIQ), Children's Place (PLCE), Jack in the Box (JACK), Macy's (M), and Take-Two Interactive Software (TTWO).

On Thursday, May 17, the Philadelphia Fed business survey, weekly jobless claims, and the Fed's balance sheet are all anticipated. Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkarl is slated to speak mid-morning.Walmart (WMT), Applied Materials (AMAT), J C Penney (JCP), and Nordstrom (JWN) will report earnings.

A slow day on the economic front, Mester will make a second speech on Friday, May 18. Earnings from AstraZeneca (AZN), Campbell Soup (CPB), Deere (DE), and Hibbett Sports (HIBB) are expected.
