Weak electronics sector pushes tantalum prices to new year-low

Weak demand from the electronics sector continued to put pressure on tantalum prices in the week ended Friday October 2, with the concentrates market dropping to a fresh 2020 low.

Fastmarkets assessed the price of tantalite, basis 25% min Ta2O5, cif China, at $52.00-55.50 per lb Ta2O5 on Friday, down from the previous week's assessment of $56.00-57.75 per lb.
"Demand in the electronics sector has gone down and the market is continuing to drop, with China not taking units in," a trader said. "There is no liquidity and we will see prices declining further."
