WEEKLY SCRAP WRAP: Global prices edge down, markets falter

Global prices moved down in the week ended Friday June 29, with Turkish scrap import prices falling following cargoes booked at lower prices, Indian prices dipping while demand falters and US scrap prices slipping.

Taiwanese scrap prices remained flat but demand was also down.Turkey importsThe Turkish deep-sea scrap market began the week quiet following continued uncertainty after general elections on June 24.Although many expected trading to resume the following week, by mid-week cargoes were being booked for August deliveries.A steel producer in the Marmara region booked a Baltic Sea cargo, comprising 25,000 tonnes of HMS 1&2 (80:20) at $353 per tonne and 5,000 tonnes of bonus at $368 per tonne cfr late on Tuesday June 26.Meanwhile, two more deep-sea bookings from last week were revealed on Wednesday.A steel producer in the Iskenderun region booked a UK cargo, comprising 17,500 tonnes of HMS 1&2 (80:20) at $345 per tonne and 17,500 tonnes of bonus at $365 per tonne cfr.Another steel mill in the same region booked a Baltic Sea cargo, comprising 25,000 tonnes of HMS 1&2 (80:20) at $352 per tonne, 3,000 tonnes of bonus...
