Why Trust Someone Who Plays Poker with Toothpicks?

An older and much wiser newsletter writer used to relay the message I'm going to share with you today frequently.

I'm not sure if he came up with it or borrowed it from somewhere else. But that really doesn't matter. It's the message that's important.

What he used to say was, "Why would you take investment advice from someone who plays poker with toothpicks?"

And here's what he meant by that...

Wouldn't you rather take stock advice from someone who has skin in the game? And not just a small stake, but a position meaningful enough to matter?

The idea here is that if you have little - or worse, nothing - to lose, then you won't be as careful in your research.

If you're playing with toothpicks... who cares if you go all-in on a weak hand since you have little to lose?

It's the same with stocks. If your editor doesn't have significant chips on the table, what does it matter if he recommends a loser?

The issue is particularly acute when dealing with speculative investments (risk capital) and private placements, the latter of which you need to make a quarter million dollars a year or have a net worth of over one million to even qualify for.

Why take private placement advice from someone who doesn't meet the criteria to invest in them himself?

While I've never really openly written about it, I am an accredited investor and have taken part in private placements over the past several years to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I eat my own cooking, which is to say I take stakes - sometimes significant ones relative to my overall portfolio - in the stocks I recommend. And I take them right alongside you.

The results speak for themselves.

I spent some time this week with a few high-net-worth investors who see deals from my Nick's Notebook service as well as from several other private placement newsletters.

Without a doubt, they said the track record of the private placements I recommend stands head and shoulders above other services.

We closed seven triple-digit winners last year ranging from 112% to 252%.

That's like doubling or tripling your money every other month.

We're sitting on six more triple-digit winners that we haven't closed yet. And because these are private placements, in many of these deals we have warrants to buy more shares at lower prices that further multiply our returns.

I've said it before but it's worth repeating: If you can find a service delivering better returns than this, I would love to hear about it, as I would join without reservation.

And if you can't, well then you should give Nick's Notebook a try.

I've been telling you there is a self-imposed limit of 400 members for that service. Members who don't play with toothpicks. As a group, we've put tens of millions of dollars into deals.

As of this writing, 396 of those spots are now taken, meaning there are only four left.

If you want one, you should act now.

We are currently funding a private placement that is open through the end of this month. Details on that are here.

And once those four spots are gone this week, we will cut off membership and raise the price. Any new spots that open up will become much more expensive than what you can pay today.

If you have any interest in private placements... or getting private placement advice from someone with significant skin in the game, I encourage you to check out Nick's Notebook.

Call it like you see it,
